9S: Core Athletic Development
The 9S Certification courses delve into the nine elements of optimal athleticism: Strength, Skill, Sustenance, Suppleness, Stamina, Structure, Spirit, Style, and Speed. These "basics" are inter-related, and need to be studied and trained to help athletes reach their full potential.
Strength
Generally defined as the “ability to overcome,” strength, like any other attribute, is multi-faceted and task-specific. This course looks at the many different forms of strength, as well as the most researched and effective ways of developing optimal strength for your life.
Skill
The development of individual skill, coordination, and motor control are essential for optimal athletic development. This course covers the ABCs of movement taught in R-, I-, and S-Phase certifications, in addition to advanced concepts in motor development, task learning, and the multi-layered systems approach to developing athletic skill.
Suppleness
Mobility, flexibility, coordination, and resiliency are a part of what it means to be supple. This course covers many unique paths to developing world-class movement skills and injury resistance.
Stamina
Stamina plays a role in every athletic event — not just marathons and triathlons. This course looks at the most effective methods for developing task-specific endurance, regardless of the sport.
Sustenance
Sustenance explores the connections between nutrition and the principles of Z-Health Performance. The course focuses on using accurate, repeatable nutritional evaluation techniques, as well as the development of exceptional coaching and motivational skills to assist clients in making the required lifestyle changes that promote permanent changes in health, fitness, performance and body composition.
Structure
Athletes in the same sports generally tend to resemble one another. This course looks into how individual body structure forms the basis of athletic potential AND how to best shape and mold structure for optimal athleticism. It also examines the most common musculoskeletal structural issues that arise in working with the general public.
Spirit
Spirit is the study of motivation, confidence, and attitude. This course offers an in-depth study of the high performance mindset, as well as numerous tools and skills for creating results with every client, regardless of their athletic skill level.
Style
All great athletes do most things the same, but differently. This individual style is what makes them unique; building on this style is what separates the good from the great. One of the greatest challenges faced by any coach is the ability to analyze, and then maximize, every athlete’s individual strengths.
Speed
There are many different types of speed, and we'll talk about all of them: lateral, linear, diagonal, curvilinear, upper body, and lower body. Filled with hundreds of training drills, plus an in-depth discussion of when and why to use certain drills, this course is designed to maximize quickness in every athlete.
